Dataran Lang

Dataran Lang, also known as Eagle Square, stands as an iconic landmark and symbol of Langkawi's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. Located in Kuah, the main town on Langkawi Island in Malaysia, this expansive plaza is dominated by a magnificent statue of a reddish-brown eagle poised to take flight.

The eagle, with its wings outstretched and talons ready, serves as a majestic representation of Langkawi's name, which is derived from the Malay word for eagle ("helang"). The statue, standing at approximately 12 meters (39 feet) tall, has become an emblematic sight synonymous with the island's identity.

Dataran Lang is not only a tribute to the island's avian namesake but also a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike. The plaza offers panoramic views of the surrounding harbor and nearby islands, making it an ideal location for leisurely strolls, photography, and enjoying the sea breeze.

Surrounding the eagle statue, visitors will find beautifully landscaped gardens, fountains, and seating areas, creating a welcoming atmosphere for relaxation and contemplation. In the evening, the plaza is illuminated by colorful lights, adding to its charm and allure.

Dataran Lang also serves as a hub for various events and festivities throughout the year, including cultural performances, festivals, and fireworks displays. It is a vibrant focal point where visitors can immerse themselves in the local culture and traditions of Langkawi.

For tourists arriving by ferry or cruise ship, Dataran Lang often serves as their first impression of the island, greeting them with its grandeur and hospitality. Whether admiring the statue, exploring the surrounding area, or simply enjoying the scenic views, a visit to Dataran Lang is an essential part of any Langkawi itinerary.
